Jack & Bishop: A Bold New Style

DARE TO BE BOLD.

Jack and Bishop Premier Apparel

Being local artists ourselves, we couldn’t have felt more privileged to have recently worked with two young professionals in the San Diego area rocking their own clothing company and up-and-coming t-shirt brand: Jack & Bishop.

The men of Jack & Bishop are just as their company manta suggests- bold, daring, fearless, and ready to tackle any challenge that comes their way. Lucky for us, they needed some professional photos to use for their online marketing efforts, and we couldn’t have been happier to oblige.

Andrew & Matt, long term friends since high school, both were ready to begin a new chapter in their lives after college. They quickly discovered working for someone else, was not the career path they wanted to head down. Instead they were crafting a company from ideas that were both inspiring and original. Both disappointed in what they saw in today’s current t-shirt trends, the guys decided to put their skills together and come up with a t-shirt brand they loved. Matt moved out to San Diego and the hard work to start their business began. What’s so inspiring about these two entrepreneurs is that everything put into Jack & Bishop has been done by the two masterminds themselves. All their products are self-designed, and they handle all their business, marketing, and social media efforts.   Their hard work is paying off- their brand is already taking off on the local San Diego scene and business is booming.

We had a lot of fun shooting for Jack & Bishop and love the way the shots turned out! (Sorry film fans- we of course went digital for this shoot, but you know we still think film rules.)

The Teddy Roosevelt quote that makes up “The Roosevelt” (Andrew is wearing below) articulates some of the ideas and images that Jack & Bishop is based on.

Punalu’u Black Sand Beach: Natural Wonders of Hawaii’s Big Island

The Beauty of Punalu’u Black Sand Beach

Andrew and I were lucky enough to stay at Kona Reef, a timeshare my company helps manage in Kailua-Kona on Hawaii’s big island a few weeks back. Neither of us had been to Hawaii before, and we were amazed at how beautiful the island was!

During our time there we did plenty of exploring; the best way to make sure you see everything is to rent a car and tour around– most sites can be seen on a day trip from Kona.

Near the end of our vacation we took a visit to Punalu’u black sands beach after spending the afternoon at The Volcano National Park.

From our visit to the park we found out that these beautiful and unusual beaches are actually made from lava!

When lava expels from a volcano during an eruption, often times it flows through a natural conduit called a lava tube. Lava tubes form when low-viscosity lava forms a hard crust, ultimately developing a roof over the still flowing lava. The surrounding crust cools, as the molten lava remains scorching, forming a channel in which the lava can flow.

In Hawaii, when the lava hits water and has no where left to go, the scorching lava flows into the ocean exploding as it experiences a vast change in temperature. The lava shatters into millions of pebble like sand of various sizes. When located very close to a volcano, like Punalu’u Beach ( it’s very near the big island’s Volcano National Park ) this can produce enough lava fragments to create an entire beach!

The overcast day made for a perfect photo opt– and we spent quite some time exploring this beautiful beach!

A Day of Sailing on San Diego Bay

Sailing Tour on Harbor Island

Sometimes you just need to be a tourist in your own city. After 5 years of living in San Diego, there are still so many things we still have left to do, and sailing has definitely been on that list for awhile.

We can’t sail ourselves, so when we saw a deal to sail with San Diego Sailing Tours, it was too good to pass up.

The day ended up being HOT– 102 degrees hot. However when we got on the boat, which we basically had to ourselves to enjoy, we somehow forgot about the heat and were able to relax and enjoy the experience!

sailboatNote here– this is the first time I’ve used ISO 800 film, strictly because it’s all I could find when I needed film fast. I definitely will not be using this again in high light/sunny outdoor settings. I knew this going in, and when I got the film developed my predictions were correct in that the quality of the photos were not exactly what I was hoping for. The color is a little strange and often times when you use a higher ISO you’ll get a lot of noise which happened in my photos. The whole point of using film though is to experiment and learn, and I definitely learned something new shooting with this film.

Looking classy sporting Jack & Bishop – our favorite new t-shirt brand. Ch-ch-check them out!

Regardless of where you are, camera in hand or not, take some time to do something in your city that you normally wouldn’t do. You won’t regret it.
